ABOUT THE REGION:
Your boating holiday starts in Hesse, a peaceful base set among forests, lakes and historic waterways in Alsace‑Lorraine. From the outset, the landscape feels calm and unspoilt, with tree‑lined canals guiding you gently through the region and setting the tone for relaxed cruising.
Cruising east from Hesse leads you on a memorable journey through the region’s highlights, including the remarkable Arzviller boat lift, an impressive feat of engineering that you’ll experience first‑hand as part of your route. Beyond this, you reach the charming hillside village of Lutzelbourg, with its medieval ruins and sweeping views across the canal, before continuing on to Saverne, home to the elegant Château des Rohan and a lively canalside atmosphere. Heading west instead brings wider waterways and the option to cruise towards Nancy, a graceful city renowned for its architecture and historic squares. With scenic stops close together, a welcoming atmosphere and a gentle pace, Alsace‑Lorraine is ideal for first‑time boaters, families and anyone seeking a slower, nature‑focused boating holiday.
