ABOUT THE REGION:
Your boating holiday begins in Homps, a charming canal‑side village that sits right on the Canal du Midi and feels perfectly attuned to life on the water. Starting here places you straight into the heart of the canal, where the pace of travel slows and the journey itself becomes the highlight.
From Homps, those wishing to cruise west can head towards the medieval city of Carcassonne, one of southern France’s most iconic sights, where towering ramparts and cobbled streets rise dramatically above the canal. Cruising east instead leads through vineyard‑covered countryside, passing historic locks and shaded towpaths lined with plane trees, with opportunities to stop at the charming village of Le Somail or enjoy wine tasting at nearby estates such as Château de Paraza. You may also have time to branch off southwards on the Embranchement de la Nouvelle to visit the historic Roman city of Narbonne, with its impressive cathedral, canalside atmosphere and rich heritage. This central stretch of the Canal du Midi is ideal for soaking up southern French culture, enjoying local wines and markets, and experiencing the magic of cruising at a gentle, unhurried pace.
AVAILABLE EXTRAS AND ACTIVITIES:
• Bike hire available from our base (to take on board with you)
• Parking available (for additional fee)
