ABOUT THE REGION:
Your cruise begins in St Jean‑de‑Losne, one of France’s most important inland ports and a true hub of boating life in Burgundy. Sitting at the crossroads of several major waterways on the River Saône, it offers an exceptional choice of cruising routes from a single starting point, each revealing a different side of the region.
Cruising north leads you along the Saône to elegant riverside towns such as Auxonne and Gray, while quieter stretches beyond offer peaceful countryside and a wonderfully open style of boating. Heading south instead takes you towards Chalon‑sur‑Saône, passing picturesque villages such as Verdun‑sur‑le‑Doubs, with its lively marina and welcoming restaurants, and opening up the option to continue along the Canal du Centre into Burgundy’s wine country. You can also cruise east along the Canal du Rhône au Rhin to the historic town of Dole, birthplace of Louis Pasteur, known for its handsome centre and canalside charm. With wide rivers, gentle landscapes and welcoming towns throughout, this region is ideal for relaxed cruising with a strong sense of French tradition, food and wine at its heart.
